PE Curriculum

At Joseph Turner, all children in Years 1–6 receive two Physical Education (PE) lessons each week. (Unless swimming) These sessions are delivered by:

  • Class teachers – one PE lesson per week
Class teachers provide a broad and balanced PE curriculum that supports physical development, confidence, teamwork, and fundamental movement skills.
  • Sports coach – one PE lesson per week
Our qualified sports coach leads an additional weekly session, offering specialist teaching, skill development, and high‑quality coaching across a range of sports and physical activities.

Together, this approach ensures every child receives regular, high‑quality physical education, helping them stay active, build physical competence, and develop a lifelong enjoyment of sport and movement.

Additional Sports Provision

Alongside the weekly PE lessons, our sports coach also provides extra opportunities for pupils to be active and develop their skills:

  • Weekly After‑School Sports Club
The sports coach runs a dedicated after‑ school club each week, open to pupils who would like to take part in additional sport and physical activity in a fun, supportive environment.
  • Holiday Sports Camps
During school holidays, the coach offers sports camps that give children extended time to play, practise skills, stay active, and enjoy a variety of sports in a safe and structured setting.

These additional opportunities help children build confidence, develop teamwork skills, and enjoy staying active beyond the school day.
