As part of this years scarecrow competition based on 'local heroes', we invited Karl Hinett into meet the pupil governors so he could tell them about his inspirational story before we made the scarecrow.

    Iraq Veteran & Burns Survivor

    Karl Hinett is a ‘Local Hero’ from Tipton. 20 years ago, at the age of 18, whilst deployed to Iraq, Karl was on a rescue mission when he was hit with a petrol bomb, drenching him in burning petrol to the point he was a human fireball.  To thank the doctors and nurses who performed numerous surgeries to save his life, Karl has dedicated the past 20 years to completing extreme adventurous challenges to raise money for various charities, including the NHS, military and burns victims. To date, he has raised over £1 MILLION!!!

    Just some of Karl’s achievements:

    • Climbed Mount Everest
    • North Pole marathon
    • Kenyan Savannah 250km trek
    • Sahara desert marathon, Morocco
    • Arctic Circle 500km trek in 10 days
    • Amazon Rainforest marathon, Brazil
    • Invictus games 2nd place in 1500m
    • Race in Antarctica (2012)
