We have had a great first week back in year 1 this week. In maths we have explored counting multiples and looked at equal and unequal. In science, we have focussed on different materials and their properties. We had a whole load of materials which we then had to group by their properties and what they were made of. In RE, we are learning about Sikhism and this week have learnt the 5 Ks.

We have had a busy week in year 1 this week! In Maths, we have looked at multiplication and how we can represent this in arrays. First we looked at what was an array and what wasn't an array. We then used counters and paint to display a range of different arrays and write their number sentences. In computing, we have been using Scratch and making a program which played a sound. We then experimented with adding different sounds and testing our code. We celebrated VE day by thinking about WW2 and how we remember the soldiers who fought for our Queen and country. In English, we looked at an acrostic poem and then used this to help write our own describing a monster which is being sent off as a competition entry!

This week we have learnt all about halves. We understand that in a fraction each part has to be equal so when making halves, each of the 2 parts must be the same. We explored finding these using playdough and then cut pictures to show half. We then moved on to find half of an amount of cubes. In science, we explored waterproof and absorbant. We tested a variety of materials to see if the water would stay on top or if it would soak through.
