Sports Premium

Sports Premium at Joseph Turner Primary

The government began providing additional funding of £150 million per annum for academic years 2013/14 and 2014/15 to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools.  This has continued every academic year since.

Schools are free to determine how best to use this funding to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision, including increasing participation in PE and sport so that all pupils develop healthy lifestyles and reach the performance levels they are capable of.

Academic Year 2023/24

We were estimated to receive £20,540 in funding. We actually received £19,556.

Funding received in 2 parts; We received £8,146 in May 2023 and received £11,410 in November 2023.

The funding will be used to pay for an external provider (ELP Sports Ltd) to provide one Sports Teacher to teach PE across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, and to provide 1 After School Club a week, and daily Lunchtime Support.

Cost of this Service Level Agreement for the academic year is £24,700.

The aim is to increase effectiveness of all lessons.

Impact of the Sport Premium Funding

Over several years our school has benefited greatly from the yearly Sport Premium Funding. Here is a summary of the main areas and the effect on our pupils:

  • The pick-up sticks installed in each Key Stage has increased children's activity levels during playtime and lunchtime.
  • The Multi Use Games Arena (MUGA) has increased the amount of PE lessons that have been held outside.
  • The redevelopment of the Early Years Foundation Stage playground has improved outdoor learning and increased the amount of physical activities that Nursery and Reception pupils get involved in.
