Bumblebees

Spring 1

During this half term, we started to learn about 'Traditional tales'. The first story we looked at was 'Hansel and Gretel'. As part of our learning we decorated a house using real sweets, created our own map of the journey the characters went on, and also used small world characters to retell the story. We then moved on to the 'Ugly duckling' story. Some of the activities we took part in included playing a guessing game by looking at different eggs and guessing what might be hiding inside, singing along to '5 little ducks' using props, and also using paints to mix colours then paint our own duckling.

Autumn 2

This half term we began by sharing our experiences of bonfire night and creating our own fireworks using junk modelling and chalks. We then used ribbons to create different fireworks and decide what noise our firework might make, including 'bang', 'pop' and 'whoosh'. Following on from this, we then learnt all about an artist called Andy Warhol and created our own artwork to display in our cloak room. We talked about Diwali and how this is celebrated and then joined in with lots of fun activities linked to this, including making diva lamps and Rangoli patterns. As the world around us has now changed as we move into Autumn, we went on an Autumn walk around the school grounds and identified that the leaves have changed colour and started to fall to the ground. We were even lucky enough to spot a squirrel!

Leading up to the special event of Christmas, we joined in with lots of fun activities as well as inviting our parents in to our Christmas workshop where we had a special visitor!

Autumn 1

This half term we have been settling in to our new class and getting to know the rules and expectations. Once we were a little more settled, we then learnt all about the 'Colour Monster' where we talked about what makes us feel different emotions, including happy/shocked/sad/angry. We then moved on to sharing who is in our family and who we live with. We now have family photographs displayed in our classroom. Towards the end of this half term, we then shared the story of 'Room on the broom' and joined in with lots of creative activities linked to this, including making potions and using a magic wand to cast spells!
