We are aware that going from primary school to secondary school can be a time of mixed emotions for parents and their children alike.
Particularly during the current situation with COVID-19, children are missing out on their transition and whilst they may be excited to start their new journey, they might be feeling slightly apprehensive about the change ahead, which is completely normal.
Below are a few things that we have put together and found that could possibly support you to help make the transition process easier. Please feel free to use these as you wish.
These resources have been created to prepare Year 6 pupils for the transition to secondary school. The lessons are based on the books You Are Awesome by Matthew Syed and Go Big by Matthew Burton. Each session will take pupils through some big ideas to help them on their way to secondary school. There is a workbook which contains activities from each session. There is also a Getting Ready for Big 2020 Home Challenge Sheet with some really nice ideas on!
Children who take part in the Be Awesome, Go Big project have the chance to win a bundle of brilliant Hachette Children’s Group books, including a signed copy each of You Are Awesome and Go Big. The winner will win a set of books for themselves and one for their primary school.
To enter the giveaway, children must write a letter to one of the authors to tell them what they’ve learned from the sessions. Download the entry form from the files below.
To submit your child’s work, take a photo of the completed entry form and upload via the form on the following website: https://www.hachetteschools.co.uk/landing-page/hachette-schools/be-awesome-go-big-resources-for-year-6/
I cannot wait to see lots of pictures of all the stuff you have been up to ready for Going Big in September. Plus upload pictures to SeeSaw or send it to me using your class email.
See you soon
